What happens when you put a great story to music, build great sets and costumes, and then get actors with the best singing voices together? You get OPERA! Not for you? Think again! Opera is for everyone! Whether young or old, there's nothing better than a good laugh or a good cry at the opera house, and San Francisco Opera wants you to get in on the fun and excitement. Don't know much about opera? Well, together we can fix that! San Francisco Opera's education programs are not only educational--they're fun! You will see what goes into making an opera happen on stage. You will also see an actual performance, live! You'll get to know the music and the meanings of all the fancy words you hear in the theater lobby. Pretty soon, you'll be watching your mailbox for next season's Opera brochure! We hope you'll join us for one or more of our programs, but be careful....you might like it!
San Francisco Opera Center and San Francisco Opera Guild programs are designed to correlate with the Visual and Performing Arts Frameworks for the State of California. When used properly and in sequence, the Center and Guild programs provide a two-year experiential program in the performing arts. Contact the Education Department for more information on how you can integrate these programs into your school's curriculum.
