The Merola Opera Program
Named for San Francisco Opera's founder Gaetano Merola, the Program was begun in 1954 and established with its current name in 1957. Each year, it offers approximately 20 gifted singers and four apprentice coaches the opportunity of study with established professionals for 10 weeks during the summer. The program includes training in operatic repertory, languages, diction, acting and movement and culminates with the Merola Grand Finale, when all participants perform in concert with full orchestra.
