National Auditions Feb 11. 1997 Auditions for the programs of the San Francisco Opera Center
The port of entry to all training programs at San Francisco Opera Center (including the Merola Opera Program, Western Opera Theater and the Adler Fellowship Program) is the National Auditions. Auditions are governed by an application and screening process and are held annually in the months of November and December. Cities and dates are announced on August 1 each year when current application materials are available to prospective applicants who meet the requirements. Some of the standard requirements are:
- All applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 34 by June 1 of the program year.
- Applicants may only audition for the programs of the Opera Center a maximum of three times.
- Applications are screened for overall experience (roles, undergraduate and/or graduate programs and study) and recommendation forms from current musical authorities are considered heavily.
Entry at a level other than the Merola Opera Program is not possible. The Opera Center's programs are of a progressive structure, beginning with Merola. Sorry, we do not accept audio tapes. To receive a current application for the 1997 auditions for the 1998 Merola Opera Program, please send your written request with a self-addressed stamped envelope AFTER AUGUST 1, 1997, to:
