San Francisco Operaâs numerous affiliate educational and training programs were started under the directorship of Kurt Herbert Adler beginning in 1954. In 1982, the Operaâs third general director, Terence A. McEwen, created the San Francisco Opera Center to oversee and combine the operation and administration of these programs. Providing a coordinated sequence of performance and study opportunities for young artists, the San Francisco Opera Center represents a new era in which young artists of major operatic potential can develop through intensive training and performance, under the aegis of a major international opera company. |
